Alignment of Silver Line corridor (K- Rail)

Kerala Rail Development Corporation Ltd (K-Rail) KRDCL is a joint venture organization jointly established by Government of Kerala and Ministry of Railways, Government of India for prospering the railway infrastructure in the state of Kerala. K-Rail undertakes railway projects from its inception to operation which will inter-alia include the preparation and submission of Detailed Project Report (DPR) and obtain required approvals from appropriate authorities for the implementation of the project.

This is a tentative alignment map of the proposed Silver Line 200 kph semi high speed railway line between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod. Map refreshed with data from Kerala State Rail Development Corporation. The map is for general information only. To get exact alignment details please contact KSRDC for official data.

The 529.45 km SilverLine corridor connecting Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, with an operating speed of 200kmph, eases the transport between North and South ends of the state and reduces the total travel time to less than 4 hours, compared with the present 10 to 12 hours.

The intermediate stations include

  • Kollam
  • Chengannur
  • Kottayam
  • Ernakulam
  • Kochi Airport
  • Thrissur
  • Tirur
  • Kozhikode
  • Kannur.

SilverLine will bring remarkable changes in local commute, by improving the travel time and quality of transportation. Every kilometre travelled by a person on semi high-speed rail is a kilometre not travelled in an automobile. There will be a substantial reduction in road accidents due to decongestion on roads. SilverLine also provides last mile connectivity which will transform people’s perception towards public transportation.

Thiruvananthapuram – Kasaragod (Kerala) Silver Line corridor is a 530.6 km approved semi high-speed rail line connecting Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and Kasargod in Kerala through 11 stations with an estimated cost of Rs. 63,941 crores.

The project’s new alignment will connect 11 districts and aims to ease transportation along the entire north – south length of Kerala and reduce the total travel time to less than 4 hours, compared with the present 12 – 14 hrs it takes via the Indian Railways.

The project will be executed by Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL or K-Rail), a Joint Venture between Government of Kerala and Ministry of Railways of the Government of India set up to augment railway infrastructure within Kerala. 5 new townships are planned to be built at Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur as identified by KRDCL.
